Heritage Baptist Church hosted a local pumpkin patch fundraiser for Elijah Rising. They raised over $7,500 for Elijah Rising. Meet Pastor John Strader of Heritage Baptist Church in Missouri City and learn about how a local church in Missouri City is helping fight sex trafficking
Why are you so passionate about raising awareness about trafficking?
This is an issue that our entire church body is passionate about. We want the victims of this issue to know and feel the love of Christ and to know that anything is possible through Him. We want to come alongside Elijah Rising and do all that we can to make a difference in our community, and in the world.
Who inspires you to be an advocate?
Christ made it clear that we are to love all people as He has loved us. It is our mission to help those in need and point them to the love of Christ. My children also inspire me to make an impact in the world for good and God’s kingdom. My congregation also has a strong desire to make the community a safer, more Christ-centered place.
How did you first get involved with Elijah Rising?
Several of our congregation members were aware of Elijah Rising and suggested we make the organization the beneficiary of a fall fundraiser in 2019. After a visit from a volunteer, and hearing Mr. Chaney speak, our church family committed to partnering with Elijah Rising.
What would you tell someone who wants to help end trafficking, but does not know how?
I would refer them to Elijah Rising to find a place that fits for them. There are many organizations dealing with this issue, but we are confident that Elijah Rising is Christ-centered and has the survivor’s needs at the forefront of their programming and strategic planning. Elijah Rising has many opportunities for an individual or group to make a difference, from financial contributions to front-line contact with those being exploited and helping them re-establish their lives.
